J.W. Speaker Installs Adaptive LED Headlights for Milwaukee Police Officers

MILWAUKEE, WI. May 30, 2018 — The Milwaukee Police Department’s motorcycles are being equipped with state-of-the-art Adaptive LED headlights allowing patrolling officers to see—and react to—potential danger sooner. The lights are being donated and installed by J.W. Speaker Corporation, a global leader in LED lighting technology, with corporate offices based in Germantown, Wisconsin, outside of Milwaukee.
“A split second can be the difference between safety and catastrophe,” explained J.W. Speaker Sales Manager, Kurt Kaufmann. “Our headlights will allow these officers to see potential trouble sooner—and get that split-second working in their favor.” The Adaptive Motorcycle Headlight™ being installed addresses poor visibility while cornering by filling in the darkness with bright, white light.
The summer season in Milwaukee is home to some of the largest outdoor venues, including the Summerfest Music Festival and the Harley Davidson 115th Anniversary Rally, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to the greater Milwaukee area, resulting in additional traffic and patrols. “The real purpose here is to support our local police officers and get the Adaptive technology onto the bikes, so these officers can get home safely after being on patrol” stated Kaufmann.
The Milwaukee Police Department motorcycles will be equipped with J.W. Speaker’s Adaptive 2 headlights at the Milwaukee Police Department Neighborhood Task Force building on Vliet Street in Milwaukee, on June 6th, 2018.
The J.W. Speaker Adaptive 2 LED headlights being installed will provide the officers ditch-to-ditch lighting to eliminate dark corners on sharp turns while delivering a punch of light 1,500 feet down the road, augmenting officer safety during patrol. The cutting-edge technology uses on-board sensors and advanced electronics to calculate bank angles on a real-time basis, automatically directing the light array up or down as the motorcycle leans. This additional illumination fills the gaps that stock headlight can’t when cornering at night.
“Lighting might be what we make, but safety is what we provide.” J.W. Speaker Co-President Tim Speaker offered his perspective. “Whether it’s an officer in pursuit or a worker at a jobsite— lighting plays a big part in preventing accidents. This installation allows us to support our local police as well as celebrate the Milwaukee Police Department commitment to officer safety, especially during summer months.”
