J.W. Speaker Corporation was one of 50 companies asked to participate in the first Driving Vision News workshop held in North America. The focus of the workshop was how and when LED technology will impact the U.S. automotive market. GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Audi, Opel and Volkswagon represented OEMs, and a number of tier 1 and 2 lighting manufacturers were also in attendance.

The agenda for the workshop included the following topics:

  • Catch the trends concerning automotive LEDs in the forthcoming 10 years in terms of technology and technique, market penetration depth and width, lighting performance, regulations, and thermal efficiency;
  • Outline the strengths and weaknesses of LED vehicle lighting: safety, environment, durability, obsolescence, standardisation, regulations.
  • Exchange experience, desires, and ideas among American, Japanese, Korean, and European participants on LED technologies for automotive lighting.

We greatly appreciated the opportunity to participate in these discussions and meet with both OEMs and lighting manufacturers from around the world.

“BlueSpot” Promotes Silent Safety!

Whenever there is a possibility that forklifts and pedestrians may meet in storage, incoming goods, dispatch or manufacturing areas, special safety precautions are necessary in order to prevent accidents.

Forklift drivers often find the shrill tones of acoustic warning devices so disruptive that they switch them off and thus prevent them from fulfilling their function. With its ‘BlueSpot’ device, for which a patent is pending, Linde Material Handling (Linde MH) now offers a visual driving path warning device, which ensures safety in aisles as well as in unclear cross-over areas. Drivers as well as other warehouse employees highly appreciate this solution.

The BlueSpot for Linde forklift trucks consists of two energy-efficient LED lights attached to the top of the driver’s protective roof frame, which project a large blue spot onto the floor a few meters ahead in the direction of travel.

The BlueSpot consists of two energy-efficient, very bright and long-lasting LED lights at-tached to the top of the driver’s protective roof frame, which each project a large blue spot onto the floor a few meters ahead in the direction of travel (forwards or backwards). This acts as a warning to pedestrians who may be approaching. The spot can be lit up constantly or can flash in order to attract attention.

There’s even a video of the light in action

J.W. Speaker's New Product Lets You See in Total Darkness

October 2010

J.W. Speaker Corporation is proud to announce the new addition of an amazing technology to its lineup – Thermal Imaging. Thermal imaging cameras pick up subtle differences in temperature and display them on a monitor. The cameras usually see an object’s heat from much farther away than you can see the same object with your eyes – especially in the dark or extreme environments like rain, snow, dust, fog or smoke. In fact, because the cameras don’t rely at all on light in order to display images on the monitor, you can see in total darkness!

When you consider that nighttime driving is more than twice as dangerous as driving during the day, and that a single accident can cost you significantly more than the price of a thermal imaging camera, you can see why thermal imaging is a growing trend in industries such as over-the-road trucking and mining. By increasing a driver’s visibility, you give them more time to react to hazards, avoid accidents and reduce wait times.

Our models 9790 & 9791 feature easy-to-mount, internally-reinforced, heavy-duty housing – making them extremely durable and perfect for harsh and/or rugged environments. Unlike other thermal imaging products out on the market, our new line of cameras are multi-voltage (12-24V) and easily install into existing systems without cumbersome converters. Similar to a GPS unit, the black & white monitor is equally easy to install and becomes a natural visual checkpoint for the driver.
