Manufacturing Engineer - Standard Products

Due to our continued growth, we are looking to add a Manufacturing Engineer to our “standard products” team! This position will be supporting our assembly department in our fast-paced, “eye on continuous improvement” environment.

Duties for this position will be varied, but will contain the following:

  • Line design and cell balancing and layouts
  • NPD launches and support

  • Fixture and packaging specifications
  • PFMEA’s

SMT/Electronics Manager

We are searching for a SMT/Electronics Manager to take ownership of our growing Electronics Department. This area is our fastest growing department at J.W. Speaker, and consists of over 30 associates working on 3 shifts. We have 3 SMT lines and a robust secondary operations group, as well. This position will provide leadership over the whole department, with additional direct reports including Electrical Engineers, Group Leaders, EE interns, and more! Our SMT/Electronics Manager not only oversees the people in the department, but has ownership over the processes, materials, and equipment, too. It is fast-paced, with a constant focus on continuous improvement.

Duties for this position are varied, but will consist of the following key priorities:

Zone (department) management/daily execution:

  • Ensure zone is stable
  • People (skill development, performance management)
  • Method (standard work developed and adhered to for key processes)
  • Machine (cell up/down time, capacity issues)
  • Material (supplier/customer)
  • Effectively achieving daily plan
  • Use/follow Leader Standard Work to pulse critical processes to achieve results

Develop Technical Competence of Workforce – Skilled and Flexible:

  • Profound knowledge of technical, material, equipment and process
  • Creates and manages a development plan for key roles
  • Ensure capability building aligns to performance

Continuous Improvement:

Electronic Engineer

February 2015

Design:

  • Create, develop, and provide circuits, schmatic drawings, and layouts to customers and suppliers as requested
  • Work closely with manufacturing and our suppliers through purchasing to design robust products, simplify assembly and testing, introduce new concepts, and to help advance the state of the art of the electronic assembly process
  • Design, develop, prepare, procure, and validate electronic prototype and sample assemblies as requested
  • Specify components, approve department documentation (layouts, CAD drawings, etc…) and sources

Project Management:

  • Knowledge and understanding of customer technical requirements and expectations
  • Guidance, and support to Product Designers and Electronic Technician and support to Project Managers and other cross-functional team members
  • Accurate and timely completion of all assigned design related activities for NPD and R&D projects
  • Develop initial resource loaded design project plans and manage the plan execution utilizing MS Project
  • Estimate and quote new project duration, assumptions, feasibility, risks, product and project costs relative to all electrical design related activities
  • Ability to provide cost estimates for new designs and projects, both high level and detailed
  • Abillity to interact effectively with internal and external customers and handle multiple projects simultaneously

Applicable Technology – General:

  • Experience with circuit board layout, Gerber files, Eagle board layout software, circuit simulation software and mechanical drawing packages
  • Familiarity with vehicle lighting requirements and regulation (SAE, ECE, FMVSS)
  • Familiarity with MS Office software

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • BSEE or BSEET
  • 5 years minimum designing electronic circuits

Preferred experience:

  • Switching power supplies: Buck, Boost, SEPIC topologies, <200 watt
  • Analog circuitry: Bipolar, FET, and Op Amp based circuits
  • Designing for EMC: EMI, ESD, and Electrical Transient testing compliance
  • SPICE-based circuit simulation tools
  • EDA Tools: Pads, PCB, Pads Logic, DxDesigner
  • Basic understanding of embedded hardware and software (C/C++/Assembly language)

  • Ensure cost effective material strategies are in place to support Product Life Cycles (ramp up/ramp down) and ECN’s
  • Follow standard work for assigned commodities – evaluate and react to daily signals (Kanban, VMI, MRP)
  • Supplier Accountability – collaborate with suppliers to ensure delivery metrics are achieved
  • Understand and follow material standards (pull vs. MRP, sizing parameters, safety stock, ABC, interval analysis) to align to value stream
  • Develop supply chain to reduce lead time while minimizing inventory risk
  • Understand our forecast and translate into material requirements
  • Collaborate with strategic sourcing and internal supply zones to eliminate waste within the supply chain

In addition to the education and experience requested above, we strongly prefer candidates with APICS CPIM certification. If candidates do not have this certification initially, it would be expected that he/she would obtain this within the first year, supported by our company.

Senior Project Engineer

We are searching for a Sr. Project Engineer who will work in our New Product Development team, focusing on our J.W. Speaker products. Our ideal candidate will have a BSME or BSMET and a minimum of 7-10 years industry experience!
This is a very fast-paced environment with an extensive project load. The duties will be varied, but will consist of the following:

New Product Development & Project Management

  • Overall project responsibility, including managing multiple projects effectively with minimal assistance
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of customer technical requirements and expectation
  • Manage priorities of a cross-functional team, including Project Engineers, Product Designers, and other team members
  • Develop initial resource loaded design project plans and manage the execution of the plan
  • Estimate project duration, assumptions, feasibility, risks and costs
  • Provide cost estimates for new designs and projects, both high level and detailed
  • Create and review and approve concept, layout, and finished solid models and drawings by applying internal and external best practice methods and techniques using Pro-E software, including the surfacing module and PDMLINK
  • Apply all applicable and accepted plastic part, mold tooling design, and design for assembly principles and techniques
  • Initiate, review results, and draw conclusions on verification and validation testing of concepts and finished designs
  • Be well-versed with all associated customer, industry and regulatory standards
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical and/or lighting technology, as well as FEA application

In addition to the aforementioned education and experience, we prefer the following:


  • 7 years minimum designing injection molded components

  • 5 years minimum managing projects and project teams

  • 2 years minimum Pro/E user experience, surfacing desired

  • FEA experience a plus
