Company History

Founded in 1935 by John W. Speaker, the J. W. Speaker Corporation has consistently expanded its products, markets and capabilities.  Armed with a long tradition of manufacturing and technical expertise, Speaker has established itself as an innovator in vehicle lighting markets.

p-38The corporation initially served automotive aftermarkets.  Products included tube tire repair kits, radiator fronts and automotive mirrors as well as specialty products including Heatab® miniature portable stoves (well-known to Boy Scouts) and “GI” can openers (dubbed “P38s” during WWII).

In 1960, under the leadership of John’s son Jack, the corporation shifted to vehicular lighting initially for lawn & garden and golf & turf tractors and vehicles.  Since then J. W. Speaker's capacity has grown to produce a wide variety of lighting products for other markets and equipment including agriculture, construction, heavy trucks, material handing, mining, motorcycle, recreation, marine and aviation.

Today John’s grandsons, Tim and Jamie Speaker, manage the company.  The corporation creates innovative lighting solutions that add aesthetic and performance value to the customer’s product.  Harnessing the power of state-of-the-art lighting technologies like High Intensity Discharge (HID) and Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), and incorporating traditional technologies as well, J. W. Speaker delivers engineered lighting solutions.
